How to Groom Your Dog at Home — A Step-by-Step Guide for Indian Pet Owners

Professional dog grooming in India costs anywhere from ₹500 to ₹3,000 per session depending on breed and city. If your dog needs grooming every 6–8 weeks, that adds up fast. Home grooming isn't just cheaper — most dogs actually prefer it once they're comfortable with the process. Here's how to do it properly.

What You Need

For most dogs, you need three things: clippers, a trimmer for detail work (paws, face, ears), and a brush. The Oneisall X2 + N5 Combo covers all of this — the X2 handles the body, the N5 handles detail work, and both are cordless and quiet enough to not spook your dog.

For thick double-coated breeds like Golden Retrievers, Huskies, and German Shepherds, the Oneisall RFC-676 is specifically designed for dense fur and high-torque requirements.

If you want to groom and clean up at the same time, the Neakasa P2 Pro Grooming Vacuum is our most popular all-in-one — it grooms and vacuums simultaneously so no fur flies around your home.

Step 1: Brush First

Always brush thoroughly before clipping. Mats and tangles will jam your clippers and pull at your dog's skin. Work through the coat systematically — start at the head and work towards the tail, brushing in the direction of hair growth.

Step 2: Bathe and Dry Completely

Clip on a clean, dry coat. Wet or damp fur clumps together and doesn't cut evenly. Towel dry and then blow dry completely before you start clipping.

Step 3: Start with the Body

Use the longer guard comb (usually 16mm) for the body and work in long, smooth strokes following the direction of hair growth. Don't rush. Let the clippers do the work — don't press hard against the skin.

Step 4: Detail Work — Paws, Face, and Ears

Switch to the N5 mini trimmer for paws, between the toes, around the face, and inside the ear flap. These are sensitive areas — go slowly and use short strokes. If your dog is anxious, do these in short sessions with breaks and treats.

Step 5: Keeping Your Dog Calm

  • Introduce the clippers to your dog before the first session — let them sniff it while it's running
  • Use treats throughout to create a positive association
  • Keep sessions short at first (15–20 minutes) and build up
  • The Oneisall runs at 45 dB — quieter than a normal conversation — which makes a big difference with anxious dogs

How Often Should You Groom?

Most short-coated breeds (Labradors, Beagles) need a light groom every 8 weeks. Long-coated breeds (Golden Retrievers, Shih Tzus, Poodles) need grooming every 4–6 weeks. Double-coated breeds like Huskies and Samoyeds benefit from deshedding rather than clipping — use a slicker brush attachment.
